Madras Institute of Technology
Madras Institute of Technology, one of the prestigious institutions in India was established in the year 1949 by Mr. C. Rajam, a visionary and philanthropist. It was the rare innovation and foresight of our founder that impelled him to launch new areas of specialization in engineering including Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics and Instrumentation. MIT has produced legends such as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India and a renowned scientist, versatile genius Mr. Sujatha Rangarajan and Dr. Ram Narain Agarwal. The broad based curriculum of MIT has indeed helped students to hold key positions in R&D organizations, manufacturing industries and educational institutions within the country and abroad.
Department of Production Technology
The department of Production Technology was commenced in the year 1977 keeping to the tradition of MIT being a non-conventional course offered under engineering curriculum.
It is to be acknowledged that, for the first time in India, a PG program in Mechatronics was started in the year 1999. It is to be noted that the department was awarded the highest grade for 5 years by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The department has organized 9 national level seminars, 3 summer/winter school and many short term courses.
